Reverend Earl A. Loeffler, 83, of Toledo, died at the Ursuline Center in Toledo. He was born on October 3, 1926 in Jackson, MI, to Earl A. and Bernadine (Dey) Loeffler. Father Loefller was a 1944 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Toledo, OH. He entered Saint Meinrad Seminary in June 1944 and graduated in 1947. He entered Saint Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario, Canada in 1947 and was ordained a priest on May 19, 1951 at our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral. Father Loeffler was assigned to Saint Joseph Parish in Fremont, OH from June 1951 until September 1967. The assignment also included being principal of Saint Joseph High School. In 1967 he was assigned as Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Blakeslee, OH and Sacred Heart Parish in Montpelier, OH. In 1970 he was assigned as Pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Sandusky, OH. In August 1974 he was appointed the first Vicar for Clergy of the Diocese of Toledo – a position he served in until June 1980. Father Loeffler was then appointed Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus in Fremont, OH and Canonical Pastor at Mother of Sorrows Parish in Put-in-Bay, OH until his retirement on July 2, 1991. He also served as the Dean of Sandusky and Fremont Deaneries, Chaplain of the Christian Family Movement and a member of the Priests’ Retirement Fund Board. After retirement he ministered to inmates at the Federal Prison in Milan, MI, where he initiated the Cursillo movement with the inmates.Father Loeffler is survived by his brother, Dr. Richard M. Loeffler, Toledo, OH; sisters Jean Byron, Monroe, MI, Phyllis A. Lacure, Toledo, OH, and Bernadine “Bebe” Eckles, Waterville, OH. He is also survived by twenty-eight nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
