Monsignor James A. Comiskey, age 95, of Kansas City, MO died April 1, 2017 at the Little Sisters of the Poor where he was a resident. Monsignor was born April 15, 1921 to William Francis and Lois Caroline (Casper) Comiskey. His siblings Rosemary Reiter, William Comiskey, Elizabeth Nowlin, and Dorothy Post all proceed him in death. Visitation will be held at St. John Francis Regis Church in Kansas City, MO on Thursday, April 6that 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.Monsignor attended St. James Catholic School, DeLaSalle Academy and then transferred to St. JohnÆs Seminary. He then attended St. Meinrad Seminary and later became a seminarian for the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas. He completed his theology studies at St. MaryÆs Seminary in Cincinnati, OH and was ordained in Kansas City by Archbishop Edwin OÆHara on June 3, 1950. He served in the Diocese of Amarillo in several parishes including Christ the King in Lubbock, TX where he remained until his retirement in 1998.During his time in Texas, Monsignor was a founding member of the Southwest Liturgical Conference and Director of Catholic Family Services in Amarillo. Monsignor received a BA in Sacred Music and MA degrees in Education (Counseling), Social Work and Liturgy. He is a published author of 2 books.Monsignor was a counselor, teacher, musician and mostly a faithful and devoted servant of Christ. After he retired he traveled to parishes in Kansas City filling in for pastors who went on sabbatical to continue their education. He never stopped ministering GodÆs Word and often taught Gospel study sessions at the parishes he served. He was a believer in Catholic education often assisting those who couldnÆt otherwise attend a Catholic school.Monsignor is survived by 24 nieces and nephews, 46 great nieces and nephews, 30 great-great nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
