A wonderful father and grandfather, died at age 82 on May 13, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family.  Alfred, the son of Alfred P. and Margaret Volz, was born in Indianapolis, IN, on March 28, 1932. Al served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from January 6, 1954 to January 4, 1957, where he was awarded two purple hearts.

During that time, he met his wife, Carol Pomfrey Volz in Richmond, VA.

After serving, they moved to Indianapolis, IN, where he worked for Campbell/Tagert.  Al started as a route driver and worked his way up to operations manager, then to district manager and retired as director of safety.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary, where he volunteered.  He was also a member of the Moose Lodge No.

Al was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carol Pomfrey Volz; parents, Alfred P. and Margaret Volz; sister, Ann Euliss Volz; brothers, Nick and John Volz.  Surviving are his six kids, Carol (David) Brace of St. Johns, Alfred “Pete” (Pamela) Volz of Potterville, Christopher Volz of Dimondale, Scott (Chris) Volz of Charlotte, Regina (Tim) Briggs of Eagle and Jennifer (Jeff) Rose of Potterville; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Steve and Dave Volz; sister, Margaret Piers; many nieces and nephews.
