Alvin H. Guenthner, Jr., 61, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 after a seven-year fight with carcinoid cancer. He was a theology teacher at Sacred Heart Academy for 38 years, also assisting with coaching the fencing, soccer and swim teams. He attended the old St. Thomas Seminary, was a graduate of Bellarmine University and Saint Meinrad School of Theology. He took care of everyone – people, animals and nature. Many thanks to the medical professionals who gave him seven more years of life after his diagnosis. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Brown Guenthner; and his brother, Robert Guenthner. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Patricia Dunagan; parents, Alvin H. Guenthner Sr. and Dorothy Guenthner; sisters, Paula Rice (Jim) and Beth Bennett (James); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leon and Shirley Dunagan; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and very good friends; his sweet corgi, Mindy; and his much loved nurse cats, Willow and Winnie. Cremation was chosen. A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p. m. Monday in the Ursuline Mother House Chapel, 3115 Lexington Road. Following the Mass a reception will be held in the Sacred Heart Academy Cafeteria. Embry-Bosse Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
