Carl J. “Jerry” Andres, DDS, MSD, 67. Jerry was born October 16, 1942 in Starlight, IN to Marcella and Carl Andres. Jerry married Ida Kerstiens on August 31, 1963. He graduated from the IU School of Dentistry in 1966. He served 20 years in the US Air Force and retired as Colonel. He then served 20 years as a professor in the IU School of Dentistry as the director of the Graduate Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthetics program. Jerry had a life of service to others including volunteer dental services on Native American reservations and the Free Dental Clinic. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America and Knights of Columbus. Jerry enjoyed cards, gardening, woodworking, wildlife carving, fishing, and boating. Jerry is survived by his wife, Ida; four children, David, Duane (Kiran), Dawn Hostetler (Joe), Daniel (Melissa); 12 grandchildren; and siblings, Joe, Marlin (Vicki), Janet (Dan), Virginia, Joyce (John), Jackie (Mike), Judy, Gina (Mike), Connie (Tim), and Shelly (Tim). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marcia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carl and Ida Andres Scholarship Fund at the IU School of Dentistry or a charity of choice.Published in the Louisville Courier-Journal on June 17, 2010.
