Charles “Chuck” William Johnson, 79, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

He was born April 12, 1944, in Indianapolis to Edward Leo Johnson and Dolores Ines Kistner Johnson. Chuck was born and raised in Indianapolis. He attended the Latin School of Indianapolis. He had planned to enter the priesthood and attended Saint Meinrad, but another path called to him. He enrolled at Indiana University, eventually obtaining his master’s degree in theology.

Chuck was an avid reader, loved to sing, enjoyed art, and was fascinated by science. His faith was his greatest strength. He had a voracious appetite for learning new things.

Over the years, Chuck learned and worked in many different career fields. He retired as a supervisor for Phi Delta Kappa. After retirement he taught science at John Paul II Catholic High School.

Chuck was very loving, warm, generous, and he had a great sense of humor. He loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Most of all he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his greatest joy and biggest accomplishment.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Julia Naugle Johnson; his children Jessica Ridge (Mark), Erica Johnson (Max Rios), and Adam Johnson; and grandchildren Robin, Liam, and Emi; siblings Edward L. Johnson, Jr. (Carol), Jean Webb (Dave), Tim Johnson (Tina), Jim Johnson (Anita), and Mary Michael (Bob).
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rita Wagner and brother-in-law Marvin Wagner, and sister Kathy Wilder.
