Clement “C.J.” Joseph Sauer, 82, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

C.J. was born in Vincennes, Indiana on December 20, 1940 to the late Clement Johnathan and Dorothey (Ruppel) Sauer. He graduated from Vincennes Catholic High School then went on to St. Meinrad for some time. C.J. eventually graduated from Southern Illinois University and Vincennes University earning his Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. He honorably served in the United States Army Signal Corps. Once C.J. returned home from the service, he went straight to work. He was a founding S.I.A.M. member and a member of multiple Resurrection Catholic Church groups which were an important part of his life. C.J. was a talented and inventive Blacksmith. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.

C.J. is survived by his daughter, Kathleen “Kae” Stevens (Daniel) of Evansville, IN; son, Joe Sauer of Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Dottie Vieke of Vincennes, IN and Ruth Ann Helmuth (Ervin) of North Dakota; brother, Ed Sauer of Plainfield, IN; granddaughter, Endora Sauer (Branden Poole) of Muncie, IN; great grandson, Jasper Poole; bonus children, Angie, Andi, Terri, Tim, Zip, Tyler, and by many others; sisters-in-law, “Fran” Bartley (Bill) and Margaret “Beth” McCarty.

C.J. was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” A. (McCarty) Sauer in 2015; his parents; brothers-in-law, Don Vieke and Harry Allen McCarty; sister-in-law, Pam Sauer.
