Daniel J. Lavey left the arms of the family he loved for the arms of his Christ, his brother whom he loved.Dan’s faith and family were very important to him. He taught his children that little things in life are the things that count and whether you were his son or daughter it was okay to cry. He also taught many men that, as he participated in Retreat weekends and that tears were a gift.He was a member of Gesu Parish’s Charlie’s Angels who ministered to the sick and shut-ins. He was also a member of Christ Renews His Parish and the Cursillo Movement through which he helped establish a prison ministry in Milan Michigan Federal Prison.Dan was a printer by trade and a member of the Toledo Craftsman Club. Those in the business knew they could trust his word.In life Dan got great joy out of participating in sports and watching his children and grandchildren play basketball and baseball. He was a true Irish fan and a Notre Dame game always took priority on game day.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha Lavey; his brother, Rev. Edward V. Lavey and an infant daughter, Margaret Lavey. He is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Anne (John) Pellek, Susan (Larry) Lottier, Ellen (Steve) Doran, Daniel (Teri) Lavey Jr., Mary Beth Lavey (Stacy), Peter (Kathleen) Lavey, Kay Kruzel, Sarah (Todd) Clear and Marty (Kara) Lavey; sister, Mary Ann (Wernie) Martin of Bellevue, Ohio, as well as 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.Memorials may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Gesu Church.
