Deacon Joe Armento, 77, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at his home.He was born January 21, 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of William Harris Armento and Margaret Rutherford Elder Armento.Deacon Armento retired from the Chemical Sciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he was an analytical chemist. He was a Deacon for the Diocese of Knoxville, stationed at St. MaryÆs Catholic Church of Oak Ridge. He was very passionate about his ministriesà as a deacon and spent many years working in hospital ministry at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Marie Stenglein Armento, July 19, 2014.He is survived by his daughter, Maria Elizabeth Anne Armento of Oak Ridge; brothers, David Armento of Albany, NY and Michael Armento of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Margaret Schrader of Columbia, MO; close family friends, Gerald Tuskan and Mark Schuster, both of Oak Ridge; special family friend – Father Sam Sturm of Dayton, TN and his wonderful caregiver, Sharon Myers.
