Saint Meinrad Class: PD 2012

Deacon Larry Pierce Durbin was born on January 3, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Cyril and Audry Durbin. He spent his formative years in Radcliff, Kentucky, and later built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. On October 1, 2025, Larry peacefully entered eternal rest, embraced by the love of God.

A proud graduate of the University of Kentucky, Larry earned his bachelor’s degree in education and dedicated his career to shaping young minds. He taught for many years in Fayette County schools and later at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas, where his passion for teaching left a lasting impact.

In 1981, Larry met Ellie, the love of his life, in Lexington, Kentucky. Along with Ellie came her 12-year-old daughter, Dawn Mosley, whom Larry cherished as his own. Larry and Ellie shared 44 beautiful years of marriage, filled with laughter, devotion, and treasured vacations on Sanibel Island. It’s fitting they honeymooned on Sanibel Island and visited nearly every year that this is where he would spend his final vacation.

Larry’s deep faith guided every aspect of his life. As a deacon in the Catholic Church, he was a devoted servant and spiritual leader, actively involved in ministries such as Marriage Encounter, Engaged Encounter, Search for Christian Maturity, Journey of Hope, the Cursillo Movement, and Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP). He was also a proud 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Audry Durbin.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ellie; daughter, Dawn Mosley; granddaughter, Jessica Mosley; grandson, John “Buddy” Mosley; granddaughter, Michelle Kaldrovics and her husband, Austin; brother, John Durbin and his wife, Diana; niece, Jenny Yates and great-niece, Evy Yates; and nephew, John Michael Durbin.
