Deacon Jennings was born on June 20, 1928 and was the son of the late Charles Banks Jennings, DDS and Enola Dobyns Jennings and was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Ledbetter.He was a dental graduate of the University of Tennessee, Class of 1960, an ordained Deacon for St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church and St. Edward’s Catholic Church and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.He served on the boards of Mt. Rogers Mental Health District and Carroll County Special Education. Dr. Jennings was actively involved in the prison ministry at Bland Correctional Center, Galax Theater Guild and he was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Ledbetter Jennings; four sons, Walter Barnard Jennings Jr., Charles Rene Jennings, Joseph Lee Jennings and wife, Denise, and Michael Jerome Jennings; grandchildren, Andrew and Alexis Jennings; father-in-law, Rene B. Ledbetter Sr., MD; brother-in-law, Rene B.
