Dennis J. Noone, Jr. , passed away peacefully on January 4, 2013. A devoted husband, father and friend, Dennis will be remembered for his love for his family, his commitment to his faith, and his involvement in the community. Dennis was born to Dennis J. and Helen (McGinty) Noone on January 28, 1930 in Indianapolis, IN. He attended Saint Meinrad Seminary in Indiana for high school and his first years of college and then transferred to St. Norbert College in DePere where he earned a bachelors degree in Philosophy in 1953. He received a masters degree from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He also received an honorary doctorate degree in 1995 from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Dennis met his wife Karol Anne Hoobler while stationed in Hawaii as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. The couple was married at St. Mary’s by the Lake in Oakland, CA in May 1956. Dennis’ career in banking began in 1955 at Wells Fargo in San Francisco, CA. The family then moved to Indianapolis and Michigan, before settling at First Wisconsin bank, first in Milwaukee, then Wausau and finally to Oshkosh where he served as bank president from 1974 until his retirement in 1995. Dennis was an active member of the community serving on the boards at Lourdes Academy, Mercy Medical Center, YMCA, Castle Pierce, C.R. Meyer and many others. Dennis had a particular passion for helping the less fortunate though his volunteer work at Father Carr’s Place 2 Be, Habitat for Humanity and the Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh. Dennis and Karol retired to Naples, FL in 1995. An avid golfer, Dennis belonged to Pelican Marsh Country Club in Naples. He also enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. Dennis is survived by his wife, Karol, and his seven children Terry (Mary), Dennis III (Rebecca), Nancy (Bill) Rutherford, John (Angie), Mickey (Lois), Meaghan (Chris) Hayward, and David (Jenny). He is further survived by 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and many brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents Dennis and Helen (McGinty) and sisters Maxine, Joy (Schaedel) and Vincentia (Sanders). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh. A visitation will be held Tuesday, prior to the service, at the church at 9:00 a.m. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Evergreen Retirement Community, where Dennis had been a resident, and to the staff at Mercy Medical Center who aided both Dennis and his family in his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lourdes Academy, 111 Jocelyn Street, Oshkosh or the Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh, 501 East Parkway Avenue.
