Joseph Emanuel, 76, departed this realm after months of fighting a painful and devastating battle with cancer which he was unable to overcome, but which never caused his faith in God to falter. Joseph attended St. Louis University and received both his bachelor’s degree and divinity degree from Saint Meinrad Seminary. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic Priest in 1957, and continued his education receiving a master’s degree in Counseling (St. Francis College, Ft. Wayne, IN) and a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University. He served as a professor at Wright State University from 1969-1993 teaching in the areas of Counseling and Human Services. A significant part of his clinical work was devoted to counseling those with alcohol and drug addictions, and he continued his priestly functions by ministering to the mentally ill at state hospitals in Dayton and Columbus, OH.Joseph was predeceased by his parents, S. Joseph and Amelia Emanuel; one sister, Anne (Robert) Kolp; and his mother-in-law, Arlene Sheridan.He is survived by two sisters, Mary Emanuel and Therese (George) Williams. Joe married Marcia Sheridan, who survives him, as do his children, David (Cindy) Emanuel and Kristin Emanuel Spira (Aaron). He also leaves four grandchildren; Tyler, Madison, and Dakota Emanuel and Estelle Spira.
