Date of death: 09/25/2024

Saint Meinrad Class: C 1976

Finn Jr., Edward L.

72 of Dayton, Ohio, was welcomed by the angels in heaven, surrounded by the love of his family, on September 25, 2024 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Ed was born on February 13, 1952 to Genevieve (Sager) and Edward Finn Sr. in Lima, Ohio. Ed loved his family including his sister, Judy, many aunts and uncles, countless cousins, dear nieces Kelly and Lynn, and maintained many treasured friendships. He often regaled his daughters with stories (and possibly some tall tales) from his childhood adventures and antics. His fiery red hair matched his personality. Ed graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School in 1970, and started college at Xavier University on a basketball scholarship. He found himself contemplating joining the religious life, and transferred to and graduated from Saint Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. As was meant to be, Ed pursued his graduate degree in Philosophy at the University of Dayton where he met the love of his life and future wife of 42 years, Cindy. Ed was a passionate, generous, and faith-filled man. Extremely loyal to his friends and family, he was driven to help those around him. He shared his skills with Habitat for Humanity, was an active member of St. Agnes Parish, a long-standing parishioner of Corpus Christi and Our Lady of Grace where he served on the finance committee, a dedicated soccer coach, and mentor to many. Ed was a skilled carpenter, and the legacy of his work will be seen for generations across many homes, parks, and businesses in the Dayton area.  He loved teaching and was in his element teaching philosophy and ethics at the University of Dayton. Ed was filled with pride for his family. He never let an opportunity go by without first bragging about his daughters’ latest accomplishments (including his beloved grandchildren). Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Ed Finn, his sister, Judy Moentor, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Currell, three daughters Caitlin (Crew Thunander), Molly (Marty McCahill), and Grace (Mike Rubin), and six grandchildren, whom he adored (Ainsley and Ronan Thunander, Francis and James Finn-McCahill, and Ida and Harry Rubin).
