Edward Owen McCarthy of Carmel, Indiana, passed away March 21, 2023, after a long illness. He was born in 1938 in New York City to the late Timothy and Annabelle Brown McCarthy.  At the end of Grade School, the family moved to Bedford, Indiana.

Ed graduated from Saint Meinrad Seminary High School and then from Purdue University.  After college graduation, he attended the United States Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and in 1961 was commissioned a Lieutenant JG.

Ed married Sheila Fox in June of 1962, and they were married more than 56 years.
After completing his tour of duty in the Navy, they settled in Indianapolis where he began his IT career with IBM.  In 1968, he took a position with Inland Container, and then in 1980, he joined Time Warner Cable in Englewood, Colorado.  There he rose to the position of Chief Information Officer.

Ed retired in 2000, and he and Sheila began spending winters in Naples, Florida.  Ever the Navy man, Ed enjoyed spending time on the water in his boat, Seamar and at their Lake Michigan cottage, also named Seamar.  In 2005, they returned to Carmel, Indiana, during the non-winter months to be closer to family and friends.  Ed and Sheila became enthusiastic golfers and were active members of three golf clubs; Castle Pines (CO); Windstar (FL); and The Bridgewater Club (IN).

He is survived by his brother John (Chriss); His children: Sean McCarthy; Tarelle Durant; Heather (Chris) Garrison; and Shannon McCarthy; Grandchildren: Jarrett, Aidan and Delaney Durant; Clark, Riley, Rhys, and Chase Garrison; and Hannah McCarthy.  Ed was preceded in death by his wife Sheila in April 2019.
