Father Alan Rekate, OSB was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Elgin, Ill. and passed away on Feb. 16, 2012.He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Catherine Rekate; and his brothers, Donald and James Rekate. Father Alan attended Marmion Abbey and Academy in Aurora, Ill. and was ordained a Catholic priest of the Benedictine Community. He remained at the Abbey as a monk and teacher for many years.This work was followed by serving as a priest in East Carbon and Green River, Utah. Several years later, Father Alan discovered a need for a priest at a state prison in Colorado and took the position. After Father Alan retired, he moved to Payson where he had many friends. He became involved in St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.Father Alan will be sorely missed. He was very much in love with Jesus, his faith and the people he served.
