Father Charles W. Remaklus, 88, passed away at Bridgewater Centre Hartford City, Indiana, after an extended illness.He was born May 20, 1921 in Dunkirk to Nicholas P. Remaklus and Elizabeth (Schmit) Remaklus.He was a former resident of Alexandria, and he has lived in the central Indiana area all of his lifetime.Father Remaklus was a graduate of Dunkirk High School-Class of 1939. He graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary in Fort Wayne in 1942, and Saint Meinrad Seminary in 1947. He was ordained on May 31, 1947 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lafayette where he served as an assistant priest/pastor until 1948 and then served at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Logansport until 1952. Father Remaklus served as priest/pastor at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kewanna from 1952-1960, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica from 1960 to 1970 and at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria from 1970 to 1987. He retired from the Alexandria parish due to his health in 1987, but continued to remain active in priestly ministry as long as he was able. He moved to his retreat home in Hartford City in 1987. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Monsignors Travers Council in Anderson and the BPOE Elks-#1776 in Dunkirk. Father Remaklus traveled extensively through the United States and the world, having visited Canada, Europe, Mexico, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa.He is survived by several nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lewis Remaklus and Duane Remaklus; sisters, Irene Fellerhoff and Lucile Bowers.Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Church of Saint Mary at Alexandria.Information obtained from www.starpress.com
