Reverend Eric Meyer, C.P., 84, died peacefully at Sacred Heart Passionist Retreat on January 13, 2023. A native of Chicago, Illinois, in 1952 he entered the Passionist minor seminary in Normandy (later moved to Warrenton, Missouri). He professed his first vows as a Passionist on July 9, 1959, and was ordained to the Catholic priesthood on April 28, 1966. Fr. Eric earned his doctorate under the direction of Johann Baptist Metz in Münster, Germany. He taught theology at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago and Case Western Reserve, Cleveland. He served as a campus minister at the Newman Center at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Fr Eric was an associate pastor and then the last Passionist pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Chicago from 2005 – 2013.
Fr. Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ann Meyer, one sister, Mary Magruder, and a brother, Joseph. He is survived by one brother, James Meyer, of Athens, GA and many nieces & nephews.
