Father Firmus Dick, 82, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, IN.Father Dick is survived by two brothers, Vincent of Owensboro, KY, and Marvin of Wyandotte, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Rita, and one brother, Charles.Father Dick was a native of Evansville, IN, and served as pastor of parishes in Bramble, Ferdinand, Vincennes, Cannelburg, Rockport and Schnellville. He retired in 1998.Father Dick was the son of Bernard and Caroline (Elpers) Dick of Evansville. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School and Memorial High School, then entered Saint Meinrad Seminary in St. Meinrad, IN.He completed his priestly studies at Innsbruck, Austria, and was ordained a priest on April 4, 1954.Father Dick’s first assignment was as associate pastor of St. Joseph Church in Evansville. In 1956 he was named associate pastor of Christ the King Church in Evansville.His first pastorate was St. Joseph Church in Bramble, with additional responsibilities at the Blessed Sacrament Mission of the Crane Naval Depot, in 1962.He was pastor of St. Ferdinand Church in Ferdinand from 1964 to 1977. During those years, the parish church was extensively remodeled. Father Dick also served as chaplain for the St. Ferdinand Circle of the Daughters of Isabella.From 1977 to 1983, Father Dick was pastor of St. John the Baptist Church in Vincennes, where he also served as president of the Vincennes Area Catholic School Board.Father Dick was pastor of All Saints Church in Cannelburg, administrator of St. Mary Church in Barr township from 1983 to 1985, and Dean of the Washington Deanery.He served as pastor of St. Bernard Church in Rockport from 1985 to 1988, and Dean of the Newburgh Deanery.He was pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Schnellville from 1988 until his retirement in 1998.Information obtained from the Evansville Courier and Press online, www.courierpress.com, on 1/18/2010.
