Fr. George Glover, O.S.B., age 66, a Benedictine monk of Marmion Abbey, Aurora, IL, died peacefully in the Lord, at the Abbey, attended by his brother monks.He is survived by the members of his monastic community and many nieces and nephews. He was the last living member of the seven children of the late Arthur and Clara Mae Glover.Fr. George was born in Piedmont, AL on December 31, 1944, and named Robert. Although baptized a Southern Baptist, he was welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church in 1965 and received the Sacrament of Confirmation in 1966. Fr. George earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy at Conception Seminary College, Conception, MO, and later served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 G╟⌠ 1971.He entered Marmion Abbey in 1983 and professed his monastic vows on August 6, 1984, taking the name George. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 1988 at Annunciation Church in Aurora. Shortly thereafter he earned a Master’s Degree in education administration from Marquette University.After his ordination Fr. George served at Marmion Academy as a teacher of history and philosophy, and later as College Guidance Counselor and Academic Dean. He served his monastic community as Prior of the Abbey from 1992 G╟⌠ 1994. He also served as Vocation Director from 1989 G╟⌠ 1991 and as Oblate Director from 2000 G╟⌠ 2004. In 2002 Fr. George was appointed pastor of St. Peter’s Church, Aurora, a position he held until September of 2009 when he was appointed pastor of Annunciation Church in Aurora. He held this position until his death. During the later years of his priestly ministry, he found much joy in serving the faithful of his parishes in the pastoral ministry. He will be fondly remembered for his folksy, down to earth, Southern humor and direct manner of relating to others.Burial will be in the Abbey Cemetery.
