Father George Kashmer passed away June 26, 2019 in Winamac, Indiana. He was born December 9, 1924 to Joseph and Pauline (Sheetz) Kashmer, in LaPorte, Indiana.
Father George served as a Sergeant of Corps Military Police Section in the US Ar my during WW II. After his military service he attended Notre Dame University and graduated with a Masters degree from DePaul University in 1963.
He was ordained at the Cathedral of the Holy Angels on May 31, 1958. He began his career as a priest at Holy Name Parish in Cedar Lake before being appointed to Bishop Noll Institute. He returned to parish assignment when he was assigned to St. Paul Parish in Valparaiso. Later he served at SS. Cyril & Methodius in North Judson; St Andrew in Merrillville and St John Cantius in East Chicago. He also served as principal of the Indiana Harbor Catholic Elementary School. He was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Council #3840, Cedar Lake, Indiana.
Father George is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Kashmer.
