The Reverend Gordon A. Yahner Senior Priest-Retired died Thursday, 13 August 2015, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.Gordon Anthony Yahner was born on 14 March 1937. His parents were the late Donald Peter and Beatrice Marie (Williams). He was educated at St. Sebastian, Akron, St. Meinrad High School, Indiana, Borromeo High School, Wickliffe, St. Meinrad College, Indiana, Borromeo Seminary, Wickliffe, and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 18 May 1963 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Bishop Clarence E. Elwell ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.Fr. Yahner’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Colman, Cleveland. In addition he was appointed Chaplain of Newman Club. On 10 September 1969 he was transferred to serve St. Edward, Ashland as Parochial Vicar with charge of Newman Apostolate in Ashland University. On 17 June 1970 Fr. Yahner was assigned Chaplain of Newman Club at Cuyahoga Community College. On 6 October 1970 he was assigned Active Diocesan Director of Newman Apostolate. He was assigned Parochial Vicar of Annunciation, Cleveland on 23 November 1973. In addition he was assigned Chaplain of Knights of Columbus Don Bosco Council #4801. On 4 January 1979 Fr. Yahner was appointed Pastor of St. Catherine, Cleveland. He was appointed Pastor of Ascension, Cleveland on 5 February 1985. On 18 July 1994 Fr. Yahner was appointed Pastor of St. Hilary, Fairlawn. Fr. Yahner retired on 14 March 2007.He is survived by brothers, Pete (Vera) and Steve (Joyce) Yahner; sister, Sarah (Mike) Mahon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
