Saint Meinrad Class: O 1972

Reverend Hugh Fullmer, former pastor at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Aurora, passed away peacefully at home in Fontana, WI on Friday, March 1, 2024. He was 77 years old.

Reverend Hugh Fullmer was born on August 20, 1946, in Evanston, IL. He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School, Elmhurst,

Quigley Preparatory Seminary, Chicago, and Lewis University, Romeoville where he received a B.A. in Philosophy, and attended the seminary at Conception Abbey in Missouri and St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana.

Father Fullmer was ordained to the priesthood on November 18, 1972, by Bishop Romeo Blanchette at St. Isaac Jogues Church, Hinsdale. He served the Diocese of Joliet where he was Associate

Pastor at St. Isaac Jogues, Hinsdale (1972-1976); Holy Ghost, Wood Dale (1976-1981); St. Alexander, Villa Park (1981-1986); St. Peter the Apostle, Itasca (1986-1988). Father served as Pastor of St. Joseph, Lockport (1988-2000); and retired as Pastor from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Aurora (2000-2017).

It was the joy of his life to serve the Church as a priest. Alongside that deep love and devotion to the family of God, he was passionate about his extended family. He enjoyed traveling the world, but he often retreated to Abbey Springs for respite during his ministry and was delighted to retire there. He fell asleep with hopes of moving into his new home with life-long friend, Fr. John Clemens, resting comfortably under his Packer’s blanket. He awoke to the glorious splendor of eternity promised by his Savior, which is even more beautiful than Lake Geneva.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie (Nee Guirsch), and his brothers, Paul and Mel (Moose).

Survived by his two sisters-in-law, Sandra and Sharyl, three nieces, Allison and Monica Fullmer, and Joanie (Leaf) Zwerling; one nephew, David (Delena) Fullmer. He is also survived by 10 grand nieces and nephews and 8 great grand nieces and nephews.
