Rev. James “Jim” E. Wafzig, 83, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Mercy Sacred Heart Village Home. Father Jim was ordained March 26, 1955. He served at St. Martin of Tours from 1955-1958, St. Augustine Church 1958-1965, St. Joseph Infirmary 1965-1970, Our Lady of Perpetual Help 1970-1980, St. Margaret Mary 1980-1986, St. Aloysius Church 1986-1996 and retired to St. Athanasius in 1996. Fr. Jim also served as Chaplain at U of L Hospital and Catholic Charismatic Renewal and also served as the Presenting Priest for Marriage Encounter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Rose Wafzig; and brother, Raymond Wafzig. He is survived by his brother, Jerome Wafzig (Melanie); sister-in-law, Pat Wafzig; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 5915 Outer Loop with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at church. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Athanasius or St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
