The Reverend James J. Lichtefeld, 77, passed away at Sacred Heart Village. Father Lichtefeld was ordained a Catholic priest May 23, 1959, and served the Archdiocese of Louisville beginning as Chaplain of St. Joseph School, Bardstown; Associate Pastor of St. Monica Church, Bardstown; Associate Pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Louisville; Pastor of St. Martin of Tours, Flaherty; and served as an Army Chaplain for three years; and the following assignments in Louisville until his retirement as Associate Pastor at Holy Family: Pastor at St. John Vianney and Administrator at St. Leo the Great, Co-Chaplain at Holy Rosary Academy and as Pastor of St. Stephen Martyr, retiring July 7, 2003. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Office of Ecumenical Affairs. Father Jim lived a full life dedicated to serving God, loving those around him and cheering on his beloved Kentucky Wildcats. He was a consistent spiritual presence in the lives of his family, friends and parishioners. He celebrated wedding anniversaries, births, baptisms, and was a rock in times of sorrow.One of the last things he said to his family was “praise the Lord.Father Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth, and siblings, Beatrice Knoop, Josephine Livers, Frances Whalen, Betty Ewing and Bruce Lichtefeld.
