The Reverend James Robert Sullivan, only child of the late James R. Sr. and Margaret Houlihan Sullivan, born July 19, 1920 in Chicago, died at Smith Village in Chicago. He attended Our Lady of Peace Grammar School and graduated from St. Ignatius High School. He was ordained for the diocese of Springfield, IL on Dec. 19, 1947, and served in several parishes in that area. In May of 1951 he became an Air Force chaplain, and served his country until June of 1974, retiring with the rank of Colonel. He returned to the Springfield diocese, serving as pastor there until his retirement in 1986. He moved back to the Chicago area and helped out for many years at St. Christina Parish in Chicago and St. Linus in Oak Lawn. His next of kin are the late John (Vernal), the late Brother James CFC, the late George (Jill), and the late Mary Rene Houlihan; the late Walter (Eva) and the late William Kelly; the late Marjorie O’Doherty; Lorraine (Brian) Tansey, Carol, James, and William (Geri) O’ Connor; Daniel (Jackie) O’Doherty; Kathleen Odenbach; Edward Sullivan and Eileen Sullivan Rogers.
