Born in 1928 in Louisville, Fr. Jack attended St. Xavier High School, graduated from St. Maur’s Seminary in 1958, and was ordained a Catholic Priest on May 23, 1959. Fr. Jack received a Master of Science from The University of Louisville in 1971.Amongst his assignments were the following parishes: St. Barnabas (associate pastor 1960-1965), Holy Cross (associate pastor 1965-1966), St. Thomas Moore (associate pastor 1966-1969), St. John (pastor 1969-1978), All Saints and St. Michael (associate pastor 1978-1985), St. Edward (associate pastor 1985-1986), and helped celebrate Masses at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation (1986-2008).In 1969, while a pastor at St. John in downtown Louisville, the death of a nine year-old boy due to starvation on Thanksgiving Eve prompted Fr. Jack to provide food for the needy and homeless. Dare to Care Food Bank was founded when Fr. Jack drove his pickup truck to gather donated food, sort it in the church’s basement, and distribute it to the needy. Fr. Jack had a special love for the Abbey of Gethsemane near Bardstown, KY, where he was a frequent visitor. Some of his fondest memories were times spent at his home in Shelby County. Fr. Jack’s love of his burros, golf, football, and his deep love for Christ will be remembered by all he knew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee Jones and Helen Ledweg; and his niece, Lee Anne Green. Fr. Jack is survived by his sister, Mary Lee Green (Norvin); his niece, Diane Paschigoda (Phil); his nephews, David Green (Carolyn) and Dan Green (Lynette); several great nieces and nephews; his neighbors, who became his extended family, Christi and Jody Eye; and James and Terry Gootee; and his beloved parishioners and friends. Fr. Jack’s visitation will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm at Shannon Funeral Home, 1124 West Main Street in Shelbyville, KY. The funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, 105 Main Street in Shelbyville, KY, followed by burial at Grove Hill Cemetery.
