Father John Francis Minnich, 85, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN.He was born in Garrett, Indiana on July 30, 1926, the son of Clement M. and Louise E. Mies Minnich. He was a priest of the Diocese of Gary, Indiana. He began preparation for his life in the priesthood at the age of 14 at Sacred Heart Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a member of the Marion Movement of Priests, was an alumnus of Saint Meinrad where he attended seminary from 1945 to 1951 and was ordained on May 9, 1951 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne.He served many parishes including: St. Peter in Fort Wayne, St. Matthew in South Bend, St. Joseph in Hammond, St. Mary in Crown Point, Our Lady of Grace in Highland, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Hammond, St. Thomas More of Muenster and St. Ann in Gary from 1967 to 1996.A funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lanesville, IN. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a visitation held at the church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.Arrangements are being handled by Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, IN.
