Rev. Leo Martin Miller, OMI, 91, born October 22, 1920, in South St. Louis, MO, died at the Dammert Center at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL. He attended St. Henry’s Preparatory High School In Belleville, IL. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Belleville, IL, on June 3, 1952, by Bishop Zuroweste. He served the Catholic Parish of St. Patrick’s in Tipton, IL, and also the Adorers of the Precious Blood in Ruma, IL, during his time in that diocese. Fr. Miller later professed vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on August 15, 1962. From 1962 to 1969 Fr. Miller taught in Catholic high schools and seminary programs in Duluth and Richfield, MN, Carthage, MO, and at The Oblate Novitiate in Godfrey, IL. After a brief time preaching at King’s House Retreat & Renewal Center in Henry, IL, he became a hospital chaplain. He served in Washington DC, Hampton, VA, and Long Beach, CA, with a special attention to Veteran’s Hospitals. He retired to the Apartment Community on the grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in 2000. Fr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Fred J. and Louise, nee Hanneke, Miller; and his siblings, Fred Jr., Rosemary (Walter) Weinhardt, Francis (Frances) and Theresa. Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Monica (Jeffery) Hartenstine of St. Louis, MO; Kathleen (Lee) Bourne of Salt Lake City, UT; Lisa (George) Hohmann of St. Louis, MO; Francis (Wendy) Miller of Lexington, KY; Mary Kay Weinhardt of St. Louis, MO and John (Karen) Miller of St. Louis, MO, and their families.From Renner Funeral Homes.
