Rev. Mark Daniel Edelen, 59, a Catholic priest serving in the Diocese of Lexington, died at 4:50 pm Friday, June 26, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.Born Dec. 8, 1955, in Lebanon, he was preceded in death by his father, James Polin “Sody” Edelen, March 20, 1990, and his paternal grandparents, George and Elizabeth Edelen and his maternal grandparents, Albert and Frances Burns.He was a graduate of Washington County High School, served in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and the submarine U.S.S. Phoenix, was a graduate of St. Catharine College, Belmont Abby College in Charlotte, N.C. and Sacred Heart Theological Seminary in Hales Corner, Wis. He was ordained a catholic priest on May 17, 2008, was associate pastor at St. Jude Mission Parish in Louisa, pastor of Prince of Peace, West Liberty and served as chaplain at Taylor Manor, Versailles.He is survived by his mother, Don Nell Burns Edelen of Springfield, two brothers, Larry Edelen of Georgetown and Tony (Diane) Edelen of Versailles, one sister, Cheryl (Mike) Mattingly of Springfield, several nieces and nephews and a loyal friend and caregiver, Barry Willard.
