Rev. Robert Carroll Wheatley (1949-2013), Age 64, of Hardinsburg, KY died Monday, October 7, 2013 at his residence. He was born February 11, 1949 in Cloverport, KY to the late Robert Gregory and Mildred Eugene Kennedy Wheatley. He was also preceded in death by a sister; Vickie Ann Wheatley.Rev. Wheatley obtained educational training and degrees in several areas including a Bachelor’s of Art in Philosophy, Master of Divinity, Bachelors of Art in History, Specialist and Master’s Degree in Education as well as Professional Certification in School Administration and Supervision and Endorsement for Secondary School Principal grades 7-12. He completed several Naval Correspondence Courses in Casualty Care, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care, and Basic Life Support. He completed Firefighting School, Water Survival, a Certificate of Achievement in HIV/AIDS Ministry, CPR, Suicidal Behavior/Military Workshop, and Graduate Course in Counseling, Family Ministry, and a Doctorate of Ministry.Rev. Wheatley held positions from 1970-1987 as an Instructor, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Adjunct Professor in several school systems. He served in pastoral and chaplain positions from 1975-1984. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served his country for over 20 years. He was a Commander, Chaplain for 14 years, Force Chaplain for 2 years and 2 months, and a supervisory Chaplain for almost 2 years. While in the Navy, he served overseas in the Global War on Terrorism. Additionally, he received 2 Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medal, 2 Sea Service Ribbons, Combat Action Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Medal, Navy Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Naval Reserve Medal, and Recruiting Ribbon.Rev. Wheatley was a member of numerous organizations and clubs. His personal hobbies included: water-skiing, tennis, hunting, fishing, guitar, golf, and private flying lessons. His favorite activities were cooking, swimming and outdoor activities.He is survived by a brother; Roy Lee Wheatley (Mary Sue) of Owensboro, KY, 2 sisters; Jean Lee of Cloverport, KY, Theresa Huffines of Millington, TN and several nieces and nephews.Visitation for Rev. Wheatley will be held Friday, October 11, 2013, 4:00 G╟⌠ 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Cloverport, KY and after 9:00 a.m. until time for services on Saturday, October 12.
