Father Gore, 72, of Belleville, IL, born Jan. 22, 1938, in St. Louis, Mo., died at Four Fountains Convalescent Center, Belleville, IL.Father Gore attended Our Lady of the Snows Seminary in Pass Christian, MS and Saint Meinrad Seminary in IN. He was ordained May 1, 1965, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL, by the Most Rev. Albert R. Zuroweste, Bishop of Belleville.His first assignment was as associate pastor at Holy Childhood Parish, Mascoutah. In 1970, he was appointed associate at St. Mary, Centralia (also serving as chaplain at St. Mary Hospital), followed by pastoral assignments at St. Mary in Mound City, St. Catherine in Grand Chain, and Our Lady of Fatima in Ullin. Father Gore served as chaplain of Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon (1976-1981) and the next year as chaplain of St. Clement Hospital in Red Bud. He was pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, DuBois, from 1982 to 1988, followed by short stints as temporary chaplain at St. Mary Hospital, Centralia, and St. Joseph Hospital, Murphysboro. Later assignments included pastor of St. Francis of Assisi, Aviston; temporary administrator at St. Liborius Parish in St. Libory; associate pastor at St. Teresa, Belleville; friar for the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop Janssen General Assembly 0199; and chaplain at the Poor Clare Monastery, the Diocesan Ministry to the Sick and Aged, and the Meredith Home in Belleville. In 2006, Father Gore was appointed pastor of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish, Hecker, where he served until his retirement on Aug. 2, 2010.Father Gore was preceded in death by his parents, Donald B., Sr. and Cornelia M., nee Fellner, Gore.Surviving are his brother, Donald B. (Judith) Gore of Alton, IL; his sister, Mary Frances Gore of Belleville, IL; a niece, Cindy (Pat) Healey of Godfrey, IL; two nephews, Michael and Daniel Gore of Alton, IL; great-nieces; and a great-nephew.Memorial contributions may be made to the Victorious Missionaries at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows or to the Priests Retirement Fund for the Diocese of Belleville.
