Fr. Timothy R. Davern O’78, JCL, died August 30, 2012 at Tempe St. Luke Hospital. Fr. Davern was born on February 20, 1952 in Yuma, Arizona. He was 60 years old. Fr. Davern was ordained for the Diocese of Phoenix on May 13, 1978 by the Most Rev. James S. Rausch. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Resurrection Parish, St. Anne Parish and at Holy Spirit Parish and previously as Pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. For the Diocese of Phoenix he served as Adjunct Judicial Vicar, Chancellor, and Judicial Vicar. Fr. Davern served as spiritual moderator of the St. Thomas More Society and was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and of the Canon Law Society of America. Fr. Davern had a BA from the University of Notre Dame, an M. Div from Saint Meinrad School of Theology and a Licentiate in Canon Law (JCL) from Catholic University. Fr. Davern is survived by his mother, Peggy Davern, of Tempe, his sister, Cathy Davern Gronquist, brother-in-law Guy Gronquist and nieces Elizabeth and Augusta Gronquist of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Vigil Service and Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3201 S. Evergreen Road, Tempe, AZ 85282. Mass of Resurrection will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with The Most Reverend Thomas J. Olmstead as celebrant. Burial to be announced at a later date at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, Arizona 85204. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Regina Cleri Priest Retirement Fund or Seminarian Education Fund in care of the Diocese of Phoenix, 400 E. Monroe St., Phoenix, AZ 85004 or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Queen of Heaven Catholic Mortuary, 1562 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa, AZ 85204.
