Fr. Seekamp, 68, died in Stamford. He was the son of the late Walter John and Doris Svec Seekamp. He is survived by his brothers, Richard and Robert Seekamp of Stamford and three nieces, Erica Oshier and her husband Dr. Joseph Oshier of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Dr. Rebecca McNiven and her husband Sean McNiven of San Francisco, CA and Jacqueline Seekamp of Gainesville, FL.Fr. Seekamp was born on August 10, 1943 in Stamford, CT. He attended St. Mary’s School, Stamford, Stamford Catholic High School and St. Gregory Jr. College, Shawnee, OK. A veteran of the US Navy, he served with the Third Marine Division in Vietnam. Fr. Seekamp studied briefly with the Alexian Brothers in Chicago, IL. His priestly formation took place at Saint Meinrad College, St. Meinrad, IN and Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, NY. He was ordained on June 23, 1979 at St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport, CT. His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Assumption Church, Fairfield from 1979- 1981. He served as Chaplain in the US Navy from 1981-1987 at Norfolk, VA and Kodiak, AK. Other assignments included resident priest at St. Mary Parish, Stamford from 1989-1991 while also serving as Chaplain at Stamford Hospital; resident priest at St. Gabriel Parish, Stamford from 1991-1993; pastor of St. Mary Parish, Stamford from 1993-1995; parochial vicar at St. Theresa, Trumbull from 1995-2000; parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, Ridgefield from 2000-2003; chaplain at Stamford Hospital from 2003-2005; parochial vicar at Our Lady of Grace Parish, Stratford from 2005-2009; parochial vicar at Holy Family Parish, Fairfield, from 2009-2011.Recently Fr. Seekamp was unable to continue active ministry because of poor health. He was a resident of The Catherine Dennis Keefe Queen of the Clergy Priests’ Retirement Residence, Stamford from 2011-2012.
