Father William J. Brennan, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville, died Aug. 31. He was 90 and had been a priest for 65 years.Father Brennan, a native of Louisville, served as a pastor, chaplain and associate pastor during his ministry. He served as associate pastor of St. Ann and Holy Name churches in Louisville.He served as pastor of Holy Family Church from 1966 to 1968. He led Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Danville, Ky., (when it was part of the Archdiocese of Louisville) from 1968 to 1979. He was also the founding pastor in 1969 of St. Mary Church in Perryville, Ky. He also served as pastor of St. Therese Church in Louisville from 1979 to 1994.After retirement in 1994, Father Brennan was in residence first at Our Lady Church and then at St. Margaret Mary Church. In 2008, he moved to the Little Sisters of the Poor’s St. Joseph Home for the Aged.In the midst of his parish ministry, Father Brennan also served as a chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Council of Danville in 1971.Father Brennan was baptized at the Church of Our Lady in the Portland neighborhood. He attended St. Cecilia School and St. Xavier High School before entering seminary at St. Mary College in St. Mary, Ky. He also attended Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.
