He was 83 and passed away surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Born January 7, 1929, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Frank J. and Rosemary (Brewer) Elsner. On October 4, 1952 in Washington D. C. he married Gloria M. Armstrong who survives. Mr. Elsner was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic Grade School. He attended St. Meinrad High School and graduated in 1946 from Shields High School. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict. He was employed at a Naval Ordnance Station in Louisville, KY, as a production controller from 1956 to 1984. Mr. Elsner was a life member of the DAV # 47, the American Legion Post # 89, VFW Post # 1925, the Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife, Gloria, he is survived by his children, Charles (Glenna) Elsner, Cecilia Sparks, Brenda (Buck) Bean, Cynthia Gant, Joseph Elsner, Eileen (Larry) Sacks, Mary (David) Trimble, Regina (Randy) Conkright, Bernadette Elsner, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Joan Elsner, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Andrew “Andy” Elsner, and brother Leonard Elsner. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Saturday, February 11, at 10:00 AM with Father Joseph Sheets officiating and Deacon Mike East assisting. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. Visitation will be at Voss Chapel on Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary service will be held at Voss Chapel on Friday at 7:30 PM. Memorials may be written to St. Ambrose Catholic School, Seymour, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or St. Vincent de Paul.
