Francis J. “Duke” Buckley, 84, of Hartford, beloved husband of Jean (Gunning) Buckley, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 28, 2013.
Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Frank and Marguerite (Moloney) Buckley. He was raised in Hartford, graduated from St. Thomas Seminary in West Hartford, and attended St. Meinrad Seminary, Indiana. Duke retired from Mercury Oil Company and the City of Hartford, Parks and Recreation Department; and had been the moderator for the City of Hartford during elections for many years. He was also an active, lifelong communicant of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Hartford, and member of the Elks Club #19, Hartford.
Besides his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Brian and Darlene Buckley of Newington; daughter Joan Buckley of London, England; daughter and son-in-law Judith and Tom Kane of Berkeley Heights, N.J; four grandchildren Macee and Connor Buckley and Michael and Matthew Kane; sister-in-law Barbara Buckley of Wethersfield, and her children Erin Cannata and Maura DeMonte. Duke was predeceased by his brother Robert J. Buckley, and sister Marguerite Newell.
