Gary Walter Wallace, PhD, 57, died peacefully but unexpectedly, surrounded by friends in Camden, Maine. Gary was born on June 4th, 1952 in Chicago to Helen and Carroll Wallace. Gary worked with the poor and homeless throughout his career, starting free clinics at O’Herne House and Community of Friendship. He also volunteered at clinics for migrant farm workers along the Atlantic Coast. He also ran clinics for the poor in Mexico, Central America and Jamaica. Gary was a Professor of Nursing at Emory University where he started a graduate program in Psychiatric Nursing. He also ran retreats based in dream work for people with mental illness and for care providers at his mountain house in the North Carolina mountains. Gary is survived by his five children, David, Laura, Jeremy, Rachel and Julia, and his grandson, Hunter.
