Harry J. Schumacher died peacefully on Friday March 11, 2016 in Fort Myers, Fl at the age of 84.Harry was born in Aviston, IL on February 29, 1932. Harry is survived by his wife Veronica (Brown) Schumacher of 40 years, two sisters Julie Clapp of St. Louis, MO and Carol (Paul) Richter of Omaha, NE and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Harry was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Bertha Schumacher of Aviston, IL. and two sisters and brothers in law. Doris Schumacher of Breese, IL and Eve (Joe) Bunten and Don Clapp of St. Louis, MO.Harry served as an educator and administrator in the Belleville and East St. Louis, IL School system for 21 years.Harry later moved to Burlington, Vermont and met his wife Veronica while working for the Department of Aging for the State of Vermont where he soon became the appointed Director. Another appointment soon followed, this time he would be the state representative to the White House Conference on Aging. A position that gave him the responsibility for administrating all federal as well as state programs in Vermont for the elderly.He and his wife Veronica married on October 6, 1976 and soon after moved to Florida where he was recruited to establish and direct senior centers from Sarasota to Naples for Senior Friendship Centers of Southwest Florida. He was instrumental in establishing health clinics manned with retired doctors and nurses with special licensing to care for the health needs of the elderly.After seventeen years of service Harry departed in 1998 to enjoy his favorite activities of boating and golf. Today many of the Centers and programs are still successfully serving seniors.
