Mr. John Roger Lindsey, 82, of Leesburg, VA passed away on October 18, 2022
at his home due to pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Nora Anderson
Lindsey; the father of Jay Ryan Lindsey and Meredith McGrath Graves; and the
father-in-law to Alicia Lindsey and Gary Graves. He is survived by his sister
Sylvia Louise Teichert and his three grandchildren: Grace Lindsey Powell,
James Richmond Lindsey, and Asher Key Lindsey.
Born on November 11, 1939, in Rockport, IN, Roger was the son of the late
John David and Emma Louise Halbruge Lindsey. After a short time studying in
the Novitiate Formation at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, and
as a shorthand notetaker for the railroads and The Baker and Confectionary
Union, Roger joined his brother David in Washington, D.C., where he earned a
BA from the University of Maryland.
Roger found his passion as a Real Estate Broker, becoming a licensed
Salesperson in 1971 and earning his Brokers license from the Virginia Real
Estate Commission in July 1979. He prospered in the field for 51 years and
received the honor and title of Realtor Emeritus in 2016. He started his career
at Long & Foster, where was twice awarded Salesman of the Year. Thirteen
years later, he moved to RE/MAX, ranking in the top 15 of agents in the mid-
Atlantic region. Roger architected many assemblages in Fairfax County and
was featured on the front page of the Washington Post for putting together
the largest land assemblage at that time. Roger passes along his expertise and
passion for real estate to his son, Jay, who has worked for and alongside his
dad in real estate for the past 20 years.
With his loving wife Nora, he spent his free time at the Outer Banks and
traveling to Peru, where he fell in love with the country and her family. Roger
would update anyone who would listen on what his wife Nora made him for
dinner the night before – he adored her cooking. Roger loved his kids –
teaching them how to dive under and ride waves and to play piano, tennis, and
golf. He liked watching his daughter play soccer in high school and college
and rarely missed a game, even when she was coaching. He loved to shore and
fly fish, adored a blue crab feast, and attended the Master’s Tournament
eleven times. He adored his three grandchildren and spent a lot of time with
them. He also enjoyed spending holidays, BBQing, and watching sports with
his brother David’s extended family and his Graves and Gilkey in-laws.
Roger will be remembered as a someone who liked to charm others with his
sense of humor. He loved to meet and get to know people. If you told him he
looked good, he would say “you only say that because it’s true.” He had an
unfailing love for his childhood, his hometown of Rockport, IN, and for a witty
remark.
