Date of death: 9/21/2019

Saint Meinrad Class: O 1959

At the age of 85, James E. Hunt died on 21 September 2019 in Fort Collins, Colorado. “Jim” was born on 6 December 1933, the son of Margaret (Sweeney) and Charles Edward Hunt in Bloomington, Illinois. He attended school at Trinity High School in Bloomington, St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana, as well as both Illinois State University and the University of Illinois, graduating with degrees in Latin and education. In addition, he was trained to interrogate Russian prisoners of war in the U.S. Army, spending a long, cold year on St. Lawrence Island off the coast of Siberia.

For 35 years he taught high school Latin, Russian, and history, first in suburban Chicago and then for 32 years in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. After his retirement he continued to pursue his love of languages by returning to college to study ancient Greek with the goal of being able to read the New Testament in its original language.

Jim is survived by his wife of fifty years Nadine (Wiechmann) Hunt; a daughter Rebecca (Jared) Orsi of Fort Collins; a son Matthew (Michelle Albers) Hunt of Michigan; grandchildren Rain and CJ Orsi; a sister Margaret Anderson of Normal, Illinois; as well as by nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters, a niece and two nephews preceded him in death.
