James L. Steffe, age 74, of Celestine, Indiana passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 29, 1939 to Carl and Loretta (Dupps) Steffe. He married Joan Hasenour October 14, 1961 in St. Celestine Catholic Church.Jim retired from DIA (Design institute of America), also was the owner of Bohnert Advertising Specialties.Jim served in the U.S. Army reserves and was a Recipient of Celestine Jaycee’s Distinguished Service Award. He was also a Charter and 30 year board member of Celestine Fire Department.He is a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church, Celestine Park, Celestine Community Club, Good Shepherd of Hill Knight of Columbus in Celestine.Enjoyed playing cards, sporting events, and grandsons activities.He is survived by his wife, Joan Steffe; daughter, Cheryl Mehringer and husband Ed of Celestine, IN; son, Mike Steffe and wife Ann, of Ferdinand, IN; four grandson, Luke and Reid Steffe and Ross and Evan Mehringer.Preceding him in death are two sisters, Rosa Lee Steffe and Charlene Steffe and two brothers, Robert J. Steffe and Arnold Steffe.Funeral services for James Steffe will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013, in St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Celestine Cemetery.Friends may call from Noon-8 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Combined rosary will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday by the St. Celestine Parish and the Knight of Columbus at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the Celestine Fire Department, St. Celestine Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
