John W. Black died at Berthoud Living Center after an extended illness. He was 75.John was born December 27, 1933, to Thomas P. and Elizabeth E. Black of Cheyenne. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Cheyenne after attending two years at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He attended Regis College in Denver, CO.John married Phoebe Jane Mountain on December 28, 1953, and lived in Cheyenne, Longmont, Sheridan and Torrington with his family. He worked as a homebuilder in business with his father, T.P. Black of Cheyenne, and later his family real estate business in Longmont, CO, and Sheridan, WY, before retiring.He was very active for many years in the Cursillo movement within the Catholic Church.He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, and he helped re-design the Hall of Knights of Columbus in Sheridan, WY.He is survived by three sons, John Jr. and his wife, Vickie, of Gillette; Kevin and his wife, Kary, of Aurora, CO; and Joseph and his wife, Lori, of Longmont, CO. He is also survived by five daughters, Jeanne Krische and her husband, Dan, of Longmont; Karen Pilkington and her husband, Mark, of Berthoud, CO; Michelle Black of Longmont; Julianne Garber and her husband, Tony, of Sheridan, WY; and Barbara McMahon and her husband, Tom, of Clifton, CO; 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Black; and two sisters, Virginia Black and JoAnn Carter.He was preceded in death by his wife, Phoebe Jane; his parents; brother, Jim; half brother, Francis; half-sister, Mary Butler; two grandchildren; and two nephews.Those who wish may contribute memorials in his name to Right To Life, 307-637-1213, or Catholic Cursillo Movement, 307-778-0664.
