John Charles Leahy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John C. Leahy on Sunday, July 14th, 2024. John, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and esteemed member of the community. He passed away peacefully at the age of 94. He lived a life marked by love, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

John was born on March 15, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late John and Bridget Leahy (nee O’Neill). He graduated from Central Catholic High school in 1948 and attended The University of Toledo. John proudly served his country during the Korean War, demonstrating bravery and resilience as a member of the United States Air Force from 1951-1954.

In 1954, John married the love of his life, Patricia Leahy (nee Maloney). Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Patricia’s passing in 2018 left a void in John’s heart, but their enduring love continues to inspire those who knew them.

John was involved in the Toledo trucking and transportation industry for over 40 years and held various Transportation Association Board positions. He started and was owner of W.W. Express until it was purchased by Jones Transfer Co. where he then assumed the role as VP of Sales.

John’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a founding member of Saint Patrick of Heatherdowns where he was involved in coaching and fundraising. After moving to Perrysburg in 1985 he became an active member of Saint Rose Catholic Church, where he volunteered his time and talents to various charitable initiatives.

He had a generous spirit and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. John was also an avid sports fan, with a special passion for Notre Dame football and the Toledo Mud Hens.

John was a dedicated father to his children, Susan Roscoe (Jeff), Robert Leahy (Laurie), Sharon Smith (Mathis), and John Leahy (Sally). He took immense pride in their accomplishments and supported them wholeheartedly in every endeavor. He was a loving brother to Maureen Meyer (Jack) and Tom Leahy. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, Jason Roscoe, Toby Roscoe, Molly Garcia, Katherine Valentin, Erin Howell, Shannon Clifton, Brigid DePalma, Brendan Leahy, Kyle Smith, Hannah Smith, Sara Leahy, Patrick Leahy, and Sean Smith; whether it was attending their sporting events or sharing stories over ice cream. He was especially thankful for the time he got to spend with his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Nicholas, Barrett, Emma, Henry, Carolina, Amelia, Jack and Connor; as well as his many loving nieces and nephews.
