John E. Ward, 90, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville.
John is survived by his life’s partner of 45 years, Florence Schmitt of Evansville, IN; brother, Robert Ward of Indianapolis, IN; and sister, Mary Ann Ward of Louisville, KY, niece, Janet Bolner, Indianapolis, IN; nephews, Mike Ward (Jennifer), Carmel, IN and Bob Ward (Maureen) of Indianapolis, IN .
John’s multiple careers spanned four decades devoted to “carrying the message”. The message of the joy of reading to high school students, the joy of the gospel message in pastoral ministry, the inclusive role of persons with disabilities in community life and during his latter days, as a bank courier, with a message of service.
Each one was a reflection of his desire to be a life-long learner, whether through reading or sharing life experiences. His love of the Catholic Church and the promise of Vatican II, his travels with Florence to various parts of the world, a shared meal with friends with a good (or what’s available) wine were all opportunities of shared love. He welcomed chances for an exchange of ideas.
