John Herbert Habermel, 81, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at North River Health Campus. He was born March 8, 1940, in Evansville, Indiana to the late Herbert and Marian (Dietsch) Habermel. His late stepmother, Frances (Melsheimer) Habermel, provided years of loving care.

John graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1957. He attended Purdue University, graduating with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1964. His first employer was Don’s Pharmacy in Evansville. In 1967, John opened an independent pharmacy, Village Square, in Darmstadt. He later opened Haubstadt Pharmacy. John retired from pharmacy in 1990.

John loved boating at Barkley Lake and belonged to the United States Power Squadrons. A long-time member of the Purdue Alumni Association, he bled black and gold. John was a lifelong fan of the Indy 500, a patriot, and an avid supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals. John also excelled at taking photographs of nature. You could also hear John singing “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” 365 days per year.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise; daughter, Holly (Jay) Ziemer; son, Jason (Christy) Habermel; and grandchildren, Riley Wilhelmus, Anwyn Wilhelmus, Cole Ziemer, Owen Habermel, and Aubrey Habermel.
