John Staid died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Horizon Hospice House in Billings.John was born Sept. 10, 1949, in Billings, the son of Helen and Irving Staid.He is survived by four brothers, James of Ithaca, N.Y., Paul and Mark of Baton Rouge, La., and Michael of Zachary, La.; three nieces; and six nephews.John attended Rimrock and Fratt schools in Billings and starred in football and basketball at Billings Central. In 1966, he moved Baton Rouge with his parents. He graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge and attended Louisiana State University and Montana State University.John worked on up-river tows on the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers, in the oilfields of Louisiana, and in the trucking business in Montana. He is remembered as a humorous, gentle and friendly man.A memorial service is planned in Baton Rouge in November. Donations in memory of John may be made to Billings Central through the Billings Catholic Schools Foundation. From the Billings Gazette.
