Mr. Harwood was the son of the late Arthur A. and Florence J. (Koltes) Harwood and the brother of Philip J. Harwood of Dayton, OH.He is survived by his beloved wife Gail, and three sons, Christopher of Providence, RI, Timothy of Washington, DC, Jonathan of Atlanta, GA, and Jonathan’s wife, Qi-dan Wu, as well as Gail’s four children: Erin Keach of Exeter, Devin McLaughlin of Exeter, Steven McLaughlin of East Providence, Sharon McLaughlin of Providence and twelve grandchildren. John attended Naval OCS in Newport, RI and completed his active duty as a Lieutenant j.g. in the Naval Reserve. He moved to Rhode Island in 1973, where he served as Executive Director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure for three years. The last 16 years of his career were spent as President of the now defunct Genesis Foundation, which made grants for the education of needy children in southern Africa. Upon moving to Wakefield in 2001, he became active in Seniors Helping Others and later in Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
