John L. O’Malley, 77, died at his home with his family by his side. He was born May 6, 1930 in Aurora, the son of John T. and Margaret (Sheehan) O’Malley.He served in the United States Navy for two years on the USS Leyte Aircraft Carrier and was honorably discharged.John and the former Mary Carolyn Driessen were married on May 3, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Church in St. Charles.He was employed as a plumber and pipefitter for 40 years, retiring in 1993 after 30 years with Johnson Controls in the Chicago area. He served as president of Aurora U.A. Local 319 Plumbers and Pipefitters and had also served as treasurer for 20 years. He was a 55 year member of Local 501 Plumbers and Pipefitters.John officiated at many ice hockey games and umpired at little league baseball games. He enjoyed golf and biking. After retiring, he worked for several years at Settlers Hill Golf Course in Geneva.John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn, his children, Melissa (Robert) Schoppe of Plano, Texas, Timothy O’Malley of St. Charles, Constance (Thomas) Bumgarner of St. Charles, Mary Beth (David) Evans of North Aurora, Joseph (Maura) O’Malley of West Chicago and John (Joan) O’Malley of Belvidere; thirteen grandchildren; his brothers, Richard (Sharon) O’Malley of Joliet, Patrick (Marlene) O’Malley of Ft. Myers, Florida, Robert (Joan) O’Malley of Bristol, James (Edna) O’Malley of Aurora and Thomas O’Malley of Chicago.
