He was born in Louisville, KY and graduated from Bellarmine University. After leaving the seminary because of illness, he met the love of his life, Mollie Mills. They married and moved to Owensboro where he was a chemist and lab manager for Texas Gas Transmission Corporation. Since his retirement 20 years ago, he has enjoyed winters in Panama City Beach, Florida as well as traveling to see his children and grandchildren. He lived life to the fullest each day and will always be remembered for his infectious smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rose Bissmeyer; sisters, Mary Helen and Mary Rose; and brothers, Al, Harry, Ray, Ed, Charlie, and Norbert. Mr. Bissmeyer is survived by his loving wife, Mollie Mills Bissmeyer; his four sons, Bernie, Tom, David, and Joe, Jr.; his daughter, Monica Riney, and their spouses Judy Miracle, Lynn Bice Bissmeyer, Susan Kuhn Bissmeyer, Alan Riney, and Beth Frawley Bissmeyer. Mr. Bissmeyer has 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Bohn. Services to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2012, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, 900 Old Hartford Rd., Owensboro, KY, 42303. A Mass will be offered at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Catholic Church, 2516 Christie Place, Owensboro, KY, 42301. A reception will follow at the Immaculate Parish hall.
